The edges of the Old World Sofa Table top are finished with a carved gadroon treatment that echoes the case pieces in the Old World Collection, and the table's dramatically flared C-scrolled legs are carved and shaped to blend with the other tables in the collection. The legs have a practical purpose as well: the offset created by the inward curve of the legs keeps the lower shelf away from foot traffic and maintains the dominant presentation of the beautiful matched cherry veneer top.

The traditional design of Old World is inspired primarily by classic European styles of antiquity. Clearly influenced by the later Renaissance period, which featured enrichment of ornament and outline, Old World reflects the elaborate details of the French and English translation of this significant architectural movement. As Roman design standards like columns and pilasters were applied to furniture, a full complement of bases, cornices and pediments emerged, transforming cabinets, dressers and other case pieces into scaled-down architectural compositions.
